Block Party
NEIGHBORS GET TOGETHER
HRHA strongly encourages all residents stay connected with their neighbors. The people who live immediately around you (i.e. up/down your street) truly comprise your own neighborhood. The commonality of living on the same street is a bond that creates “your neighborhood”!
While there are multiple HRHA events during the year, they draw from our entire sub-division. A periodic ‘get-together’ or gathering among neighbors on your block/street helps to strengthen the community feeling of your neighborhood beyond simply waving as you pass by. With so many new residents in Hunting Ridge, this summer is a great time to connect with those on your street.
In the summer time it can be as simple as an informal evening drive-way gathering for your immediate neighbors, an open Flamingo Friday gathering or a Block Party with your street barricaded courtesy of the Village. It just takes one person to take the initiative to start the ball rolling. Feedback over the past 5 years has been consistent that everyone who attends a neighborhood get-together, greatly appreciates the opportunity to visit and connect with their neighbors.
Block Party Information
Wondering how to coordinate a Block Party for your street? It is easy and a fantastic way to have a fun afternoon/evening with your neighbors. Follow our step-by-step to make it happen!
-
Talk to a few neighbors to get a consensus date at least 2 weeks out (i.e. Sunday afternoon 3-7 p.m.).
-
Decide the level of coordination of food/activities you want to follow – from as simple as “bring your own” to sharing food. If you are unsure – keep it simple the first time!
-
Helpful Hints
-
Everyone brings their own item to grill and an item to share.
-
Everyone brings their own chairs.
-
Coordinate a few grills, tables, and umbrellas for shade.
-
If there are a lot of young children, consider games/activities (enlist those parents).
-
-
-
Contact/notify all your neighbors of the event and details. This is required.
-
Helpful hint is to type up a flyer announcing the date and details and leave in everyone’s door.
-
-
Go to the Village web site https://www.palatine.il.us/FormCenter/Community-Events-7/Block-Party-Permit-46 , and complete the on-line Block Party Permit application or complete the Paper form – see PDF. You can request to have the Fire and/or Police Department visit for the children.
-
The Village will drop off barricades the week of the event. You then use the barricades to block off both ends of your street during the scheduled time.
-
Helpful Hint – consider using high visibility tape between the barricades to reinforce that the street is closed. Drivers sometimes mistake the barricade as a caution notice instead of a street closed notice. Parked vehicles are not permitted to be used as barricades, nor completely taping/blocking the street as emergency vehicles do need access.
